Types of Electronic Components

In this article we will discuss about the major types of electronic components.

The electronic components are mainly classified into two categories.

They are : 

            1.Through Hole Design

            2. Surface Mount Design (SMD) or Surface Mount Technology (SMT)

Through Hole Design : 

        Through Hole Design is mainly used in most of the circuits. The through hole components are easily identified by us. In the above diagram the resistors denotes the through hole design. They can be easily solderable and de-solderable.

            These components are easily serviced by a normal human. The major disadvantage is that these components are of larger size. These components are cheaper than Surface Mount Technology. That's why in most of the electronic circuits, these through hole design is used.

Surface Mount Design (SMD) or Surface Mount Technology (SMT) : 

            Surface Mount Design is used rarely in most of the circuits. These components are very smaller in size & their efficiency is very higher. These components lowers the size of the circuit and weight. But mostly these components cannot be identified by a normal human. Experienced people can handle with Surface Mount Technology.

            The above diagram shows the surface mount technology. The main disadvantage is that these components are not easily solderable or desolderable. These components cannot be serviced by a normal person. Only experienced people can service these surface mount design components. It is the major disadvantage in these components.
